Prachin Konkan is an amazing open-air life size and life-like museum in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. The big campus depicts Konkan life from 500 years ago. The museum has the Konkan social, economic, cultural and religious background on display.
About 2 kilometers from the famous Ganapatipule Temple, this is a visual treat. The museum is at a walking distance from Ganpatipule bus stand. You can also take the state transport buses and rickshaws from Ratnagiri bus depot to Ganpatipule.
With life-like sculptures of the Maratha hero ‘Shivaji maharaj’ and models of the amazing sea forts of Konkan region, this place represents a grand history.
This museum is a paradise for nature-lovers: the gardens here host 150 different kinds of trees, which are home to various species of birds in the region. You will find golden shower tree (bahava), chironji (charoli), sandalwood and many more rare species of trees here.
There’s more! They have an area called ‘Nakshatra Baug’ – a garden of trees for each sunsign. It’s very unique, personal and inspiring.
The entry fee of Rs. 30 includes a guided tour of the place. The all-female staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
You can also buy handmade wooden handicrafts as souvenirs from their gift shop.
