In the middle of sector 29 Gurgaon which is famous for its happening happy vibe, strung with pubs, bars and restaurants; Varun Puri has opened Duty Free Bar. It’s bang in the centre of the sector, and easy to locate.
First adjectives that spring to mind: large, lovely, lively.
The highlight of this outlet is the open air romantic space called “Vayu Bar”. This romantic deck, designed in white and green, is sunlit during the day and candlelit by night. Cosy up in a cabana and enjoy the live music and open view. The Vayu Bar can be easily spotted: there’s a huge windmill installed at the top of the establishment.
The cocktail and mocktail menu is interesting. And it’s always nice to see some creative names. “Boss Calling You”: Hehe. Or pick from the exclusive “Pahua menu”, an eccentric take on characters from B-Town: Majnu Bhai, ChuCha, Baburao Ganpatrao Apte and many more. The creative mixologists are happy to customise your drink. For those who like their classics, there’s plenty of imported liquor too, at prices that are kind to the wallet.
Now for the food. The chef makes sure his presentations boast the personal touch. And again, the hearty indulgent menu awakens our tastebuds at first sight. Pleasant evening, punctuated with generous helpings of overloaded fries, chunky pasta, wood-fired pizza, pillowy dim sum and old Indian favourites like palak patta chaat…at pocket-friendly prices, too. We loved the popcorn chat: don’t miss it.
One minor quibble I did have was with the choice of music and the sound quality. That fixed, the place is perfect for a weekend evening out with friends. A Long Layover never felt so good.
