Home to the great mathematician Pythagoras, Samos is a Greek island located just off the Turkish coast. Situated in the North Eastern part of the Aegean Sea, it is renowned for its beauty and heritage. Samos, which in Phoenician means ‘rise by the shore’ is defined by photogenic beaches, delicious wine and an island pumping with life. 

Like all Greek islands worth their salty seas, Samos boasts some lovely beaches. You’ll enjoy hours of sun and sand beside the soothing waters. Here’s our pick of the best:

Lemonakia

Nestled around a sheltered bay, Lemonakia beach is located close to the capital of Samos, Vathy. Umbrella, sundecks, and a bar—you’re all set here! Just relax by the turquoise waters nestled among high cliffs.

Megalo Seitani

If you like your beaches quiet, head to the exotic Megalo Seitani. You’ll get here either by a small boat or through Potami on foot. No facilities here, so do carry your own essentials. Not much to do here but lie back and let the serenity drape itself around you.

Pythagorion Beach

Pythagorion is for the hip crowd. It is lined with some of the finest restaurants on the island, and the nightlife is peppy. Relax on sunbeds, play a zesty game of volleyball or try the high-energy water sports.

Samiopoula Beach

Clear water and fine sand. A boat ride from Pythagorion brings you here. Since there is no other way to access it, not many tourists visit here. Bring your own water and food. Umbrellas you will get here. Nice spot to play some volleyball.

Votsalakia Beach

The Votsalakia beach stretches across the southern part of the Samos island. Come here if you enjoy swimming and snorkelling. The sand is fine and the beach is pebbly. There are umbrellas and sun-beds for you to relax, and a few taverns close by.

Tsamadou Beach

A steep pathway takes you to the Tsamadou beach, located outside Kokkari. A small kiosk, as well as taverns are dotted around it. You can hire umbrellas and sunbeds, or go snorkelling in the clear waters. Tsamadou is the only officially known nudist beach on the island. The right side is considered to be the nudist area and the left non-nude.
