A Dzong is an ancient fortress with towers, courtyards, temples and administrative offices. Before entering a Dzong you need to dress appropriately.
Wearing jeans, wrapping your jacket around your waist, unbuttoned or unzipped jackets are big No. Even hats, shorts, short skirts, flip-flops or t-shirts can’t be worn inside.
Travellers aren’t expected to wear the traditional gho or Kira, but you should cover your arms and legs with long-sleeved clothing.
The next time you plan a trip to Bhutan, don’t forget to pack some full-sleeved shirts, full-length pants, shoes and scarfs, or just grab yourself one of the traditional attires!
